Just as it’s important to be kind to others, each of us has our own personal kindness quotient to fill. Often mistaken as selfishness, being kind to yourself simply means listening to your body, recognizing your needs, and, of course, loving yourself. After all, who doesn’t need a little TLC every now and then?

Bringing more kindness into your life is easy and can ideally be done daily. Follow these six suggestions and fill your kindness quotient, everyday.

1. TREAT YOURSELF

We can all use a little pampering every now and again. If you’ve been eyeing the new restaurant on the corner, pining over a new pair of heels, or longing for a massage – just go for it. The ‘splurge spectrum’  is up to you. Treating yourself could mean a weekend getaway, a new dress, or just a scoop of ice cream. Regardless, if you feel you’re due for some indulgence, don’t hold back.

2. TAKE A BATH

Taking a bath has to be one of life’s Top 10 simple pleasures. A soothing soak is a natural way to induce sleep and relax the body. If you’re feeling fancy, add bubbles or a few drops of essential oils, such as sage, eucalyptus or lavender.

3. INFUSE SOME POSITIVITY INTO YOUR WORK SPACE

Decluttering your desk is a simple way to channel positive energy into your work space – and, as a bonus, it can boost productivity. Changing your desktop or mobile wallpaper to an inspirational quote or colorful background, or decorating your office with plants and pictures is another way to get the good vibes going.

4. DEDICATE A FEW MINUTES IN THE MORNING TO APPRECIATING YOURSELF

Aibileen from bestseller, The Help may have been onto something with her much-quoted mantra, “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” Make it part of your morning routine to say aloud in the mirror three things you appreciate about yourself. It could be a declaration of the qualities you admire most in yourself, or simply an acknowledgment of small personal feats, like remembering to floss.

6. DISCONNECT FOR A BIT

Put your phone on airplane mode, your computer to sleep and let your mind just wander. Daydream, stare out the window, meditate – whatever floats your boat. The point is to give your brain a little break.
