Top 10 Dr Seuss quotes

Today is National Read Across America Day – a day dedicated to the celebration of reading and how it enhances our lives. Created by the National Education Association, Read Across America Day takes place every year on March 2, Dr Seuss’s birthday.

I love everything about reading: the smell of a book, getting lost in a good story, and most of all, I enjoy reading to my children. The best part about reading with my kids is seeing their faces light up with the excitement and anticipation of what’s coming next. It brings back memories of my childhood and when my parents read to me – a valuable tool we need, not only for knowledge, but also for connection and personal growth.

Over the years, I’ve read countless books to my children, but the two that stand out in my mind are Oh, The Places You’ll Go and Green Eggs and Ham, both age-old classics by Dr Seuss.

In honor of Dr Seuss’s birthday and National Read Across America Day, here are my 10 favorite quotes from this literary legend:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

“Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s a great balancing act.”

“Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.”

“And will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).”

“Think left and think right, and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try.”

“You’re off to great places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting so get on your way.”

I hope you join me and pick up a good book today! Happy reading!
