“Peace comes from within, when you find it share it. Help make this world a better place.”

Every year on September 21, the United Nations invites all countries and people around the world to honor the International Day of Peace. Raising awareness on related issues, Universal Peace Federation chapters organize celebrations worldwide.

The theme for 2016 is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace,” which aims to protect the planet, end poverty, and ultimately lead to global prosperity. Each one of the 17 goals is a crucial component in the plan for international peace, including the management of financial resources, technology advancement and building partnerships.

“The people of the world have asked us to shine a light on a future of promise and opportunity. Member States have responded with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development… It is an agenda for people, to end poverty in all its forms. An agenda for the planet, our common home. An agenda for shared prosperity, peace and partnership.” – UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon

It’s easy to get swept up in the craziness of our everyday lives, but if each one of us took a step back and thought about ways we could be kinder and give back – no matter how small – it would make a major difference.

If we all became more conscious of our thoughts, feelings and attitudes, it may be possible to increase sustainable peace. What an incredible possibility!

What do you think? Do you believe your actions could make a positive change in the people around you, or even in the world?
