“My favorite book as a child was S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. I read it for 6th grade English and was completely captured by it. Prior to that book, reading was something I had to do for school rather than something I wanted to do. Hinton is a genius with character development and plot-driving dialogue. I felt like I was part of the gang as I turned the pages. Wait…was the character Cherry Valance the real inspiration for me to become a redhead in my twenties? I never connected those dots, but I always had a desire to go red, and she’s the first redhead I ever met!”
