Are your heart and brain in sync?

Is it possible that our hearts communicate with our brains? The answer is yes. There’s a conversation taking place between your heart and brain every day. While you may not be consciously aware of it, it’s this communication that impacts every aspect of your life. Our hearts and brains are constantly sending signals to the other, which causes the thoughts and emotions we experience. Pretty cool, wouldn’t you say?

Researchers at the HeartMath Institute have spent years studying heart activity and its effects on cognitive and emotional functioning. I was there and saw their magnetometers measuring the frequencies myself.

Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., Vice President and Director of Research at Heartmath and Rose Caiola Founder of Rewire Me.

They find that the heart not only responds to emotion, but interestingly, it also plays a major role in the quality of the emotions we experience.

When we feel negative emotions such as anger or jealousy, our hearts send a signal to our brains that reflects the emotion. As negative emotions are unbalanced and volatile, that is exactly how the signal shows up in the brain.

The same is true for positive emotions. “When we experience uplifting emotions such as appreciation, joy, care, and love; our heart rhythm pattern becomes highly ordered, looking like a smooth, harmonious wave,” according to the HeartMath Institute. “This is called a coherent heart rhythm pattern. When we are generating a coherent heart rhythm, the body’s systems operate with increased efficiency and harmony.”

How to maintain heart coherence

Most of us know what it’s like to experience a state of flow or harmony, when our emotions and our brains are in sync; this is called heart coherence. The idea of coherence suggests that we can take control of the relationship between our hearts and our brains. When we’re in a state of coherence, we are more likely to face our challenges in a creative and intuitive way.

So how do we know if our hearts and brains are in sync? I recommend trying the emWave – innovative technology that measures your heart rhythm. The emWave shows you how to change your heart rhythms by controlling your breathing and focusing on positive emotions. emWave collects pulse data and translates your heart rhythms into graphics that reflect your level of coherence.

When we experience genuine feelings like appreciation and compassion, our heart coherence increases. If we all take responsibility for the energy we project by becoming more conscious of our thoughts, feelings and attitudes, it may be possible to increase global coherence – and eventually, sustainable peace. What an incredible possibility!

      Nirav,
Intuition comes from within. It’s the tiny voice we hear in the background that we quiet all the time. When you want to hear it find a quiet place to sit and ask your question. The first answer you hear is usually your intuition. Don’t allow yourself to make sense of it, don’t try to convince yourself that it’s not what you want to hear, just allow yourself to hear the voice. Ultimately, your inner awareness knows the answer. Learn to trust it. xo
